THE 3 R’s OF WELLBEING

The possibility of working 4 days a week is an idea that has been launched.

The R, R and R approach.

How would it help you as a person?

Unfortunately, quite a few people experience some form of stress in their lifetime, especially when they are employed in a fast pace environment. Headaches and stiffness in the muscles cause discomfort, sometimes to the point of excruciating pain.

You try to drink plenty of water and move around during your day, but nothing seems to help. How would a 4 day week reduce this?

#TIME is the key. Time to rest and Recover.

How to do this?

Every person has their own way of dealing with a busy week. Similarly to learning new things, we destress by using these techniques depending on our preference:

Kinaesthetic

Verbal

Visual

Auditory

Another key point for minimising the effects of a working week is Reflection. This works really well with a person who is a verbal learner and enjoys this way of processing things.

Taking that step back and thinking and/or writing down what was great about the past week, what did not go as well as it could.

This clears the mind and it’s then ready for the next phase.

Breathing exercises help clear the lungs and get oxygen flowing in the brain and muscles. Feeling anxious? Take a few deep breaths.

If on the other hand you are a more auditory type person then listening to music or maybe sounds of nature like waves hitting the seashore can calm you down.

Any sort of movement, whether it’s exercising, cleaning your home, organising cupboards is all a part of kinaesthetic processing. Sitting still for this type of person can be extremely difficult and could raise their stress leves.

Regroup: How will the following week begin? Will you start nice and early with that lovely cup of coffee?

What is good to get done. Note I said good to get done NOT NEED to get done. What are the priorities of the week? Hint, it is taking care of your wellbeing.

I strongly believe that a 4 day week in any industry would be beneficial for the well being of the employee from physical to psychological. The three days off work ( preferably completely switched off) would give the person a chance to recover, reflect on their week and regroup.
